Holiday Gift Guide – Kate Spade Edition

kate spadeIt’s Kate Spade shopping guide day (Alex said I could)! As an added bonus, today www.katespade.com is offering 30% off (code: SHINE). OMG. Just try and do yourself a favor and limit yourself to one gift for yourself…

#1 Most Kate Spade items come with cute postcards that say “she is quick and curious and playful and strong”. I have one on my refrigerator. This 2016 17-month large agenda has that saying on the front, with Kate Spade details inside like gold foil dots.

#2 The pave bridesmaid idiom bangle doesn’t have to be a bridesmaid gift. It actually just says girly friendship stuff, so it could be for any friend. I love it in rose gold!

#3 They used to have the keds for kate spade new York glitter sneakers in rose gold, and I’m sad I didn’t snap them up. Still, they are adorable in black or white. They are covered with glitter and have ribbon laces. I’m pretty sure they couldn’t be more girly, and I’m okay with that.

#4 For an inexpensive but luxurious gift, try these fluffy spots ankle socks in pink or grey. Classic Kate Spade polka dots!

#5 Looking for a small wallet? This super cute gold polka dotted cedar street confetti dot darla is a good gift… okay, or maybe for yourself.

#6 The last thing I have to point out is the cedar street iphone 6 wristlet. I personally don’t have the iphone 6, but how sweet is this wristlet that has the perfect space for your phone and slots for cards? That’s always my wristlet issue. I jam my phone in there then carefully slide my cards in. Then when I pull out my phone, all the cards and cash fall out. So not what I’m going for… ugh.

Let me know if you buy anything! I can’t say if I’m buying any gifts… my friends read this! But I’m definitely thinking of buying the one in a million business card holder I mentioned in this post.

Kate Spade is Awesome

I was looking at the Kate Spade idioms bracelets that I get a little over enthusiastic about, and I wandered to watches.

Really though? Is the 5 o’clock metro watch not the funniest thing ever? If anyone can’t see the picture, It has a martini glass instead of a 5, and says “somewhere” across the top.

I think it would encourage drinking more than I need in my life, but I think it would be a hilarious gift. You know, for someone you like $200 worth, so maybe not for that many people. 😉

What do you think? I love this one, but I know a) it would be way too big for my wrist and b) the clasps on their metals watches don’t stay together very well. Is anyone thinking about Christmas shopping yet? I’m thinking of putting together some gift guide ideas this year, but I’m afraid that all that will do is tell all my friends what I’m buying them for Christmas…

I am Wearing the Same Outfit as My Dog

Confession number one- I ordered a dress for my puppy’s first birthday. I have tried hard to find people that support this decision, and I have found maybe 10% of those I mention it to think it is even remotely okay.

Confession number two- the dress arrived today. I tried it on her and then realized that… Umm… We match.

I’m pretty sure I just became the old lady with the cats. Except with a dog. And matching outfits.

Do you think I should get more dogs and just become the crazy dog lady? Or try to save myself while I still can?!

How To Pack For Vacation- A Guest Post

twin bearThis is my very first guest blogger, “Twin Bear”. I am so excited to have her here, and I hope that you are too 🙂

——————————————————–

One night, I was having drinks with Jillian when a woman approached us and said, “Excuse me- I just wanted to tell you that I love your style, and the pattern and color of your dress. I could never wear that color!”

I replied, “There is a color spectrum for every woman. You just have to find the colors that work for you. You would look great in baby blue crop pants and a yellow skinny belt. Those colors are soft, yet bold enough for you to ease your way into the world of color.”

She smiled and said, “Really, you think? Thanks.”

Jillian whispered, “You should do a guest blog on fashion, because this happens waaaay too often.”

So, here I am- a colored girl who loves color. Color has always held a special place in my heart. Growing up, I could relate seriously with Punky Brewster, and not just because of her back story. PB had serious style. My back-to-school shopping trips were to the thrift store where clothes were purchased by the pound. I found the thrift store was the equivalent of being let loose in a dream world. I was an excitable child (WAS? She still is! ~Jillian), and I would run around touching fabrics, picking colors, and making perfect ensembles.

These days I have a style crush on the imaginary adult PB and Solange. When Jillian wrote her blog on fashion icons, I told her I would love a peep in their closets. So, Jillian walked into mine and pulled out a slew of amazing pieces. We all need a good friend to remind us of our own blessings! I am now, however, overwhelmed with my closet. As I was trying to decide what to pack for vacation, I thought about Jillian’s offer to write a post.

orange suitcases WARNING you may find this less of a fashion post, and more my asking you “What do you pack for vacation?” and “How should I pack my own suitcase (Jillian and I got ours from Amazon)?”

choices narrowing it down
I started by putting on a fashion show for my very own Superman, and snapped photos for Jillian (isn’t this how all women decide what to wear?). At the first dress, Superman looked up and replied “Are we supposed to be going somewhere?” (men!)

stripesI informed him that I was modeling outfits to decide what to take on vacation. His reply “Seriously?! Well, don’t pack more than three pairs of shoes and 10 outfits, and don’t forget a coat.”

Had he been reading up on packing? I did know that I had to be judicious in packing, since the airport luggage fees are killer, 10 outfits for seven days seemed fair (How many outfits do you take on vacation?), and I would need outerwear. I had to agree that he might be right.

blazer I decided I would build my vacation wardrobe around my Ann Taylor navy blue blazer (similar). The price was daunting, but I was won over by its clean lines and beautiful silk polka dot lining. It’s a piece I can dress up with dresses, or down with jeans (I believe 90% of your wardrobe should be able to do double duty; as space, time, and money are too precious for them not to). This blazer will be balancing my bold colors and prints.

I definitely think that if you wear a bold color or print, you must turn the rest of the look down- “Less is more!”

However, that does not apply to shoes! How does one pick three pair of shoes for 10 outfits? Talk about cruel and unusual punishment! I told Superman just that, and his reply was “Well, you own one purse” (men!) I decided to not mention that I indeed definitely own more than one purse, this particular one is just my current favorite 🙂

shoesI went to my shoe closet, stared, and thought- okay, definitely a pair of sandals to show off my vacation pedicure, something comfortable (after all, I have a city to explore), and maybe something Carrie Bradshaw. What do you think?

Flowers and Kate Spade

flowers Kate Spade Idiom BraceletsOver the weekend I was at Trader Joe’s. I swear they have the best flowers! I decided to buy some because, well, I can. I felt guilty and ridiculous. Then I just did it anyway. Is it weird that I feel guilty buying flowers?

But, back to the fluffy, glittery side, look how cute they are in this yellow striped vase!

In other news of how I am spoiled, I now have three of the Kate Spade idiom bracelets that I have been lusting after. They all have cute phrases (idioms?) inside them. I got the ivory for my birthday, a friend sent the pink just because she loves me, and I stalked eBay until I found the striped one from last year. I just got it today! I love it ❤

I really want all of the bracelets, which I think is becoming a problem. Does anyone know where I can find the yellow one? I think it’s from last year.

Stitchfix!

stitchfixI explained how Stitchfix works in this post, but here is a short run down: fill out a style profile, a stylist sends you a surprise package of five items, try them on, decide what to keep, and send the rest back. You only pay for what you keep, but there is a $20 styling fee. If you don’t keep anything you’re out the $20, but if you do it comes off your total. That’s really like paying shipping both ways (which they don’t charge), so it’s not a huge deal to me.

I skipped last month, but now Stitchfix is back. I came home and found this box today. I tried to find everything before hand, but most of the pictures were not that close to what I actually got. The one exception was a shirt that I already have in a different design.

Renee C Andez Drape Front CardiganRenee C Andez Drape Front Cardigan 2Renee C Andez Drape Front Cardigan $48.00 Okay, this is not what I was expecting at all. It’s soft, and the material is thick. It was really comfortable, and I liked it from the side- the draping is cute. However. I look like I’m wearing a blanket. Or a bear pelt. It’s too overwhelming. I mean, it is right? I kind of wanted to keep it, but I just think I look ridiculous.

Skies are Blue Casey Embroidered BlouseSkies are Blue Casey Embroidered Blouse $58.00 I’m sorry in advance to anyone who got this and liked it. I’m sure it looks very cute on you. On me, I don’t like the stomach emphasis or the embroidery. I think every pattern on it is ugly. It fits baggy in the chest and arms and tight in the stomach. I hate everything about this shirt. I guess the fabric was okay, but it was really thin and clung strangely.

Renee C Macklin Graphic Floral Print BlouseRenee C Macklin Graphic Floral Print Blouse $48.00 This is the shirt that I already bought in a different color, a few boxes ago. I’m not loving this pattern, and it’s too low cut for work without a tank top. I definitely don’t need two of these, so it’s going back! If I didn’t have the first one, I probably would have bought this just to not lose my $20.

update: My friend MK saw my post on Instagram, and loved this shirt. She caught me before I sent it back, so now it has a new home with her 🙂

THML Margate Mix Material TopTHML Margate Mix Material Top $48.00 It’s a little hard to see in the picture, but the top is black and white striped, and the bottom is blue and orange striped. I guess that’s sort of cute, since I never wear orange and this might ease me in. I put it on and it was too tight, and the orange stripes totally emphasized my stomach. That is absolutely the last thing I am looking for in life. Maybe in life is a stretch. It is absolutely the last thing I am looking for in a shirt.

Liverpool Mira Skinny JeanLiverpool Mira Skinny Jean $78.00 The pants were my favorite thing by far. I like that the pockets in the back are lower than most pants. They have a wider waist band, which is good. The problem is they’re very similar to pants I already have. If they had been a different color, I would have bought them. I also didn’t think they looked that cute on me when I saw the pictures. I’m realizing I kept more stuff from these boxes before I blogged about them and had to look at so many pictures… wonder what that says about me…

Buying everything would have been $215.00, after the discount for buying all five items. Did anyone get any awesome Stitchfix stuff this month? If anyone wants to try Stitchfix, here is my referral link: https://www.stitchfix.com/referral/3035456
