A Brand New Shiba Inu

lambeauI have very exciting, fluffy news! Riley Annabelle and I have welcomed a new Shiba Inu into our home. For now he is a foster dog (just like Riley was), but that is just a technicality. As long as nothing crazy happens, I will adopt him soon. His foster name is Ace. The only reason he can’t officially be adopted yet is that he came from a rescue (www.shibas4life.us) and, of course, the rescue does not want to contribute to the overflowing pet population. No animal can be adopted out until they have been altered. This little boy is just three and a half months old. After he is neutered, he will be a permanent part of the family. Packers fan that I am, the new puppy’s name will be Lambeau. That is what he goes by at our house now, he is just Ace officially until he is adopted.

Here are some pictures and a video of the new baby with Riley (Riley is just over a year old). Riley is very playful, and loved Lambeau from the very second she saw him. They have had a few squabbles in the two and a half weeks he has been with us, but hardly any. They are best friends and I can tell they will be inseparable. Lambeau is much more outgoing than Riley was at this age. They are both rescues, and I got them both at three months. It’s sad to think what they went through as little tiny babies, but wonderful to see them happy.

Holiday Gift Guide – Hostess Gifts

hostess gift ideas

It’s that time of year- holiday parties every time you turn around. Let’s be honest, a lot of them you don’t even want to go to. I say, go to as few as possible! That is the bright side here, everyone is so busy, you can always claim you have a conflict 🙂

Anyway, some of these parties I bet you do want to go to. The one your best friend is having, or your mom or cool aunt. Obviously you can always bring a bottle of wine (or a bottle of flavored vodka. Vodka is the best.), but here are some other fun options. If you’re creative, they will actually remember that you brought something.

#1 & #2 Will pets or kids be at the party? Your hostess may love to have something to keep them out of her hair. My friend’s kids love these LEGO Friends toy sets, and my dog loves Kong Wubbas. Plus, how popular will you be for remembering their loved ones?!

#3 Here’s a cute gift for someone who has everything- paper straws! They come in so many cute designs and colors, and are something most people wouldn’t buy for themselves.

#4 Reusable bags are always a great gift. They can be used for a million things. They’re a fun way to wrap a gift, they’re perfect for grocery shopping (some cities are now charging for bags with your groceries, so bringing your own just makes sense), and I like to always have one shoved in my purse. I use mostly Baggus, but I actually think Chico Bags are more convenient. Baggus have a separate stuff bag that I never seem to have around. The Chico Bags have an attached stuff sack that I can never lose.

#5 Around the holidays, everyone has a ton of thank you cards to write. She can do it in style if she has this cool Kate Spade initial card set! I wish the lettering came in different color options, but you can’t have everything. The dots and stripes together are adorable.

#6 I know this is ridiculously random, but these measuring spoons fit inside spice jars! If your host or hostess likes to cook, these would make a really cool gift. I have no idea why I’ve never seen this before. It’s brilliant.

#7 How about some Chakra Bath Salts? The cheerful rainbow colors are fun for someone who loves baths, and they have that indulgent spa feel.

Is anyone throwing any parties this year? I just… can’t. I’m tired. I’m old. I’m… lazy? Okay, fine, mostly tired and lazy. But if anyone wants to come over and drink in a non pressure-y un-party themed atmosphere, come on over!

Riley the Shiba’s First Birthday

August 31st was Riley’s first birthday. I can’t believe she is already one! She got a few presents and has been having so much fun playing with her new toys.

I forced her to wear the new dress that I bought her, and she actually tolerated it pretty well.

Riley having a little snack from her pile of loot, and Kuma looking on in jealousy.

Does anyone else celebrate their pets’ birthdays? I just can’t help it, she’s so precious.

I am Wearing the Same Outfit as My Dog

Confession number one- I ordered a dress for my puppy’s first birthday. I have tried hard to find people that support this decision, and I have found maybe 10% of those I mention it to think it is even remotely okay.

Confession number two- the dress arrived today. I tried it on her and then realized that… Umm… We match.

I’m pretty sure I just became the old lady with the cats. Except with a dog. And matching outfits.

Do you think I should get more dogs and just become the crazy dog lady? Or try to save myself while I still can?!

Growing Up

This will be short and sweet, but today I’m thinking about change. Isn’t it interesting how much we change over the years? I feel like I am a completely different person than I was in my twenties.

It’s funny how I thought I was such an adult, I knew everything, I had all the answers.

Now I am in my thirties and I feel like I know nothing! Does anyone else feel that way?

And for babies… Look how much Riley has changed! She’s not quite seven months in the first picture, and three months in the second! She’s practically a grown up dog now.
