Weigh In Wednesday and the Status Quo

bear nailsI thought I should report in- I did do the manicure that I talked about on Saturday! It didn’t come out as cute as hers, but I still like it! I definitely felt less than professional in my meetings this week, but with the bears on the thumbs it’s easier to hide those away.

My weight is the same as last week (still at a total loss of 6.8 pounds). I honestly haven’t been working very hard this week. I have been putting my energy toward finding a therapist. This is probably too personal for the internet, so I won’t get too detailed. The general idea is I’ve decided that since I’m taking life in my own hands this year, I should start from scratch. I think that a lot of my weight issues are related to not taking care of myself in the right ways. I need to prioritize my health and my sanity. I want to live intentionally and relaxed πŸ™‚ Talking to an unbiased party will help me sort out how to achieve my goals- or at least that’s what I’m hoping.

That said, I have kind of been maintaining the status quo. One change that I’ve made that I’m happy about is I’ve been eating a lot more salads. That is a huge step for me, since my natural inclination is to eat every carb I’ve ever seen in my life. Making one small change is a huge deal for me, because I tend to either make huge changes I can’t maintain, or no changes at all.

I’m still really struggling with exercise. My energy has been so low, and I just have zero motivation. What should my next small change be? What are you working on this week?

  1. I have been trying to lose “ONLY” 30 pounds for a year now. I keep going through phases where I’ll run a lot, lose almost 20 pounds, get bored, and stop. I hate running and it gets worse. I’ve become better at it ….. that was until my husband and I bought bicycles! We have been biking every day and I’m having SO much fun. I never even liked biking much. All it takes is getting a cute bike that makes you feel cute, finding a nice path, and going. (I want to get a basket for my pups.) We go every day as long as we can, as low as 15-minutes if it is a busy day. I just feel so awesome afterward because I will be sweaty and not realize it, because it doesn’t feel like work, however it is working everything. Not a guarantee to lose all the weight, but I’m sure it helps?

    • Oh my gosh!!! A basket for my puppy!!!!! I want that! That would be so amazing! Thanks, Sami πŸ™‚ that’s a great idea.

      • I went to look for one this weekend and didn’t find any suitable ones! I have to spoil my pups. You’re welcome. If you find one, let me know. I really want to so they can ride around with their tongues hanging out in that big goofy dog smile they do (which isn’t really even smiling and although we find it adorable, they’re super hot in their fur coats). Haha!

      • It’s so funny you say that, I’m always telling J that panting like that isn’t smiling lol. It is adorable, though! I will let you know if I find one πŸ™‚

      • I feel kind of cruel for saying “aw, he’s smiling!”. This his body keeping him from overheating…lol. My girl chihuahua actually has a sad look on ALWAYS. She gets the most pets because of this though… everyone takes pity in her. Her nickname is actually “Sad eyes” because her name is Sadie, which is kind of funny. But we call her Kristen Stewart because she normally doesn’t show emotion like (Charlie) does. But ah, it’s cute. I’m sure you notice it too, that your two dogs may be the same breed but they have totally different personalities. Like little furry babies.

      • That’s too cute πŸ™‚ I do understand, my dogs are pretty much opposites.

    • Ahh, the bike ride. My partner and I tried that, but were seriously competitive so we had to stop because of hurt feelings. We now go on long walks on the neighborhood trail or around the neighborhood. It’s always fun to check out the neighbors’ curb appeal and feed the ducks and watch the rabbits. Before you know it, we’ve walked at least two plus miles.

First, kudos on looking for a therapist! I know how hard it can be to actually take the step from “I need therapy” to “I have a therapist.” That is awesome πŸ™‚

Second, totally don’t mean to be nosy, but could your lack of energy possibly be from anemia? It’s something I’ve struggled with my entire adult life. Only in the past few months have I been able to get rid of it, and my overall energy level is so different. I’m not saying I’m ready to run a marathon, but I generally just feel so much more energetic and notice it the most in the gains I’ve made in running. Anyway, maybe it’s something that’s affecting you too?

  3. LOL, I have a board on Pinterest that is titled, “Carbs are my soulmate” πŸ™‚ So, I totally hear ya there! I’ve been working on finding healthier treats for us, because when you all of the sudden start eating better, we can binge if we feel deprived… so I have focused on finding treats so I don’t feel deprived – especially since dinner last night was the last of the asparagus, and then some lettuce and cucumbers… but that was a result of a work meeting in which we ordered dessert – and I forgot how many calories come in desserts when you eat them at a restaurant! I can make a 100 calorie cupcake and eat 7 of them and still have calories left over compared to the cake I had at lunch! LOL.
Anyway, not sure what the point was… I am now craving cupcakes… Good job on not gaining this week!!

    • The point I that I’m not alone in my carb fever? How dare you bring up cupcakes!!!

You know what’s awesome though, I’m actually wanting asparagus now!

It’s true, desserts are very very dangerous.

  5. Well done on all fronts. Is your low energy anything to do with the weather? We had a change in the weather over the last couple days, and it has definitely lowered the energy level around here… It is so much easier to be energetic when the sun is shining.
I am a big carb eater myself… mmm… I should join you with the salad eating.

    • The weather doesn’t help, but I also think it might be circular. My energy is lower because I’m not working out, I’m not working out because my energy is lower…

I’ve been buying bagged salads. I hate the plastic, but it’s a good stepping stone for me. I need easy.

      • I am totally with you on the downward energy cycle… you need a workout partner! On Monday I so wanted to just sleep in and skip our regular morning run (the time change made it dark, it was frosty… ugh…), but my running partner would have none of it. So I got up and went for a run with her, and felt amazing afterwards!

      • Yes, I need one so badly.

      • You should start a garden and grow a host of greens. It’s much better than what comes in those bags. Admittedly, not as quick; but worth the wait if you don’t have the space or green thumb, shop at your local farmer’s market. It will cut down on the bags and the walking is free exercise.

      • I am the worst with plants. Seriously, the worse. I have killed mint, which people say is not even possible. Farmer’s markets are much more doable.

  6. I have put on 10kg (22lbs) since my birthday in May last year. I started off putting it down to weight training, but then it just became all about the carbohydrates, and simply indulging myself whenever I wanted, often because I was bored. I now have to loop an elastic band through the buttonholes of my trousers and over the button because I cannot do them up any more!

That said, I have lost 3kg in the last 3 weeks. I have to apply rules to myself, because I have no ability to moderate my own behaviour without black and white guildelines. The rules at the moment are; 1) I do not eat after 8pm, and 2) I challenge myself every time I go to get food about whether I am actually hungry.

Seems to be working so far!

  7. You’re doing better than I am! At this point I would be happy if my boobs would just get smaller.
