Weigh In Wednesday- Personal Training

IMG_9073The only time I’ve truly successfully lost weight and kept it off for any amount of time was when I worked with a personal trainer. I know this, and even so I have a hard time getting a personal trainer.

A view inside my head: “it’s so expensive! There is absolutely no reason I can’t do this myself. I do not need to spend this much money on something that I can do myself. Plus, I’m embarrassed to admit to a stranger that I’m fat.” Et cetera, et cetera.

Now, is this positive self talk? Or even true? NO. I have no idea why I talk to myself this way, and I’m not allowed to anymore- I’m supposed to be positive. This means that I have to start by admitting I won’t do it myself. I didn’t get this way because I could do it myself. I need help. The money is real, but I think it makes sense to spend it on that instead of clothes and eating out. As for admitting that I’m overweight and need help- that isn’t easy for me either, but, umm… People have eyes. I don’t think any of this is actually a secret.

I’ve posted before that I bought a three pack of personal training sessions. I’ve used two of them, and the last one is this Saturday. Here is where I’m deciding that I need to buy more. It’s forcing me to work out once a week, and makes me want to do more in between so I look like I’m trying when I see the trainer.

She pushes me to do more than I ever would on my own, and I’m sore all the time. I like being sore, because it reminds me to make better choices. Work out more, eat less garbage, do some yoga to stretch it out 🙂

Does anyone else do personal training? Or have a way I can get my butt to the gym and not pay a personal trainer? I think maybe I’ll look around and see if I can get a better deal somewhere else.

If anyone is keeping track, my weigh in this week is still pretty stable, but down a bit from last week. I am down 4.8 pounds since January. I am not going to say anything negative about that, even though I want to!!

Keep it up!! I don’t have a personal trainer…I’ve been doing my best to work out at home for about 10 years now, and that’s without gym equipment. I’m telling you – it’s not easy! I wish my parents would let me buy at least one thing we could use to help me out..I usually just blast music or watch a Friends episode to keep me going. In the summer time, I’m more active too as I can go outside.

  2. I don’t have a personal trainer, but I did get a couple free training sessions when I signed up for a gym membership once (I don’t have a gym membership anymore). I find my biggest motivation is to have a friend that I work out with. It makes it more fun and it makes it a social thing, instead of a work-out thing. Health is really important, so I don’t see any problem spending money on whatever is needed to get and keep healthy.

  3. 4.8 lbs is great!!! I’d love to be 4.8 lbs down from January!
And, if working with a trainer is what helps you, then by all means, invest in yourself! You will find the money if it’s important to you 🙂

  4. I don’t have a personal trainer, but I also haven’t lost 4.8 pounds since January. I’ve resigned myself to the fact that I won’t be losing anymore until it warms up and my 4 footed personal trainer starts taking me for long walks again.

  5. You go girl! I have an aversion to gyms, so I just try to walk everywhere possible, because they say that’s “the best type of exercise” and it’s easier than real exercise/I can listen to music/talk on the phone/etc while doing it. But I had a trainer too once and I agree it’s motivating, so good for you!!

  6. Awesome job! i work out at home, yoga and kettlebells. I have my wife to keep me motivated thankfully plus the people of wordpress. but if the personal trainer is helping you should go for it. your health and happiness is worth it for sure.

  7. I am my personal trainer and it actually works. I had lost alot of weight now I agained it back because I gave in to my passion. The trick is to do excercises which pleases you , like opting for swift walking on monday , doing warm up, stretches and yoga on tuesday, treadmill on wed , ab crunches the next day and walking the other days. Now I am back on track and hopefully will be my old self soon . If u have confidence in yourself then dont waste your money on trainers . Excercise with music turned on, believe me go for fast numbers you like and then within a blink of an eye you would have completed your excercise in the stipulated time and ya do continue the regime you begin coz if u stop and then start again your body can get cramps . You feel sore bcz of that you practice daily then it can do wonders . Good luck 🙂

  8. Pay for the trainer and think of it as preventive medicine! Remember cash is king. Inquire if you can receive a discount if you pay cash, if they say no walk away. Sites like Groupon and LivingSocial always have deals on personal training, boot camp deals, and various workout classes!

  9. I’m with you, I can’t seem to get motivated. I don’t want to spend the money to join a gym but I feel like going to classes is the only way to get me to work out. I just cannot find the motivation to do it at home. It sounds like you are doing great! I’m doing this challenge from Petite World Citizen to have the accountability of others, you should do it too! http://petitworldcitizen.com/2015/02/23/pwcs-healthy-lifestyle-challenge/

  10. I think if having a personal trainer keeps you motivated to work out, then it’s worth it. You could cut back spending a little bit on your extras each month and put that towards you trainer. How often were you working out with your trainer? What if you it down to two sessions per month? I’m right there with you, staying motivated for me is the toughest part. I am hoping to get back to the gym in March. I have some weights and an elliptical at home, but I think being at the gym around others working out is motivating in itself.
