I mentioned in passing that I might post some pictures of my kitchen, post minimalism coming through (though to be fair, not much has changed). A few people wanted to see, and I LOVE looking at kitchens!
We just got our house in summer 2014, after looking for quite a while. We really wanted an open floor plan and an island. J was lusting after quartz counters. We found it all! My favorite part is that the quartz has silver sparkles in it- it feels like a party.
table and chairs– Crate and Barrel
sideboard (bar)– Dania
stools– Dania
rug– Amazon (affiliate link- if you buy this I will get a small percentage of the sale)
What’s your favorite part about your kitchen?

looks very tidy and neat. and i love your rug!

Thanks! I wasn’t thrilled it came a little more lavender than the gray that it looked online, but I’ve decided it totally works with the yellow.

Oh, I love! I think my kitchen is the original 1950s kitchen that was built in the house… with maybe a few updates in the 60s or 70s… solid, and function, but not so pretty. Hopefully in a year or two we will be able to afford to do the major reno that I want to do to open it all up and modernize it. I may save some of your pictures as inspiration, it looks so good.

Aww, thank you! I love it. Our house was actually flipped, so it was just redone. We have the inserts from the realtor and all of the cabinetry is from Ikea, believe it or not.

All those home shows on TV seem to use IKEA cabinets. My uncle is a cabinet maker though, so I think I’d be disowned if I didn’t use him for our kitchen reno whenever it happens. π

Oh, a 50βs kitchen would be fabulous. Have you seen this site (http://www.architectureartdesigns.com/25-lovely-retro-kitchen-design-ideas/ )? I dream of one in a vacation home one day. Our home is modern so we couldnβt go this route for our remodel. Some advice- mix the highs with the lows and start from the floor up. After our hardwood floors were installed and we painted an accent wall, we realized our kitchen counters look pretty damn good and just needed a professional polish. That saved us a ton. Canβt wait to see your space one day!

What a beautiful, cheerful space. I love that color scheme and the idea of a rug. I may have to borrow that idea! I also fear you have opened up Pandoraβs Box with your questions, as we have just come off a major kitchen remodel and I can talk about kitchens all day… lol. The thing I love most about my kitchen is the cathedral ceilings and the skylight. It can be downright spiritual watching the sun set or the clouds roll back with a glass of wine. The item that guests rave about the most is the island (http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Savannah-Black-Kitchen-Cart/6635556/product.html?searchidx=0). Itβs an organizer’s dream as it holds all our cookbooks and towels, and can host two bar stools. Surprisingly enough, the piece of a la resistance is our Pottery Barn Essential Drape Rod – Cast Iron pot rock (I borrowed this idea from design guru Candace Olson). I will warn your readers to go with a heavy material that can hold the weight of their pots. Ours holds a slew of ceramic, cast iron red cookware and spans our very wide kitchen window over our sink. I also know my partner is very fond of the pull out shelving(http://www.rev-a-shelf.com/p-177-base-cabinet-pullout-2-tier-wire-basket-reduced-depth-sink-and-base-accessories.aspx), though let me not forget the dishwasher(http://www.sears.com/kenmore-24inch-built-in-dishwasher-w-turbozone-trade-rotating/p-02213043000P ) which we have nicknamed the beast- my busy household could not live without it!

I love you choices! What color scheme do you have? Island are amazing, and I’m envious of your pull out shelving. Maybe someday π

My color scheme is white and black (just an accent wall, my partner vetoed the whole kitchen being this color), but as many of us who have ever been in paint department know, those colors donβt existβ¦lol The exact colors are Valspar bistro white kitchen & bath enamel and Valspar Mark Twain gray brick (who comes up with paint color names, really?). This is one of those eye trick colors. It can look gray or a chalkboard black depending on how the light is streaming in.

Wow, you have a beautiful kitchen! Right now our kitchen is incredibly small, but I would say my favorite part is actually the window, lol! I have an awesome view of the bay and enjoy seeing that while I am chopping or washing dishes π
